Rheumatology Treatment and Medication Services

Rheumatic or musculoskeletal conditions comprise over 200 diseases and syndromes, which are usually progressive and associated with pain. These conditions can affect the joints, connective tissue, cartilage, and tendons. Some of these conditions are considered autoimmune diseases, which arise from an abnormal immune response of the body.

Ankylosing Spondylitis

Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of arthritis that primarily affects the spine, causing inflammation and potential fusion of the vertebrae, leading to stiffness and reduced mobility.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a common form of joint pain. It is often called wear and tear arthritis.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis, or RA, is caused by the immune system malfunctioning and attacking a person’s body.

Lupus

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease of unknown cause. It can be limited to the skin (cutaneous) or involve multiple organ systems (systemic).

Sjogren’s Syndrome

Sjogren’s Syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect many body parts. The most common symptoms are dryness in the eyes and mouth.

Psoriatic Arthritis

Occurs in people with psoriasis, a chronic (long-lasting) skin disease characterized by a dry, scaly, itchy skin rash that most commonly occurs on the elbows, knees and scalp.

Polymyalgia Rheumatica

Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by muscle stiffness and pain, primarily affecting the neck, shoulders, and hips.

Inflammatory Myositis

Inflammatory Myositis is a group of diseases characterized by chronic muscle inflammation, weakness, and in some cases, skin rashes, often caused by autoimmune conditions.

Scleroderma

Scleroderma, or systemic sclerosis, is a chronic autoimmune disease that predominantly affects the skin and connective tissue diseases.

Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis causes the bone to become fragile and break (fracture) with minimal or low trauma.

Chronic Muscle & Joint Pain

Chronic muscle and joint pain is a persistent and often debilitating condition characterized by prolonged discomfort, stiffness, and inflammation in muscles and joints, potentially impacting mobility and quality of life.

Gout

Gout is caused by an inflammatory response to monosodium urate (MSU) crystals that precipitate from high uric acid levels in the blood.

Vasculitis

Vasculitis is an inflammation of blood vessels that can cause vessel wall thickening, weakening, narrowing, or scarring, leading to restricted blood flow and potential organ damage.

Bursitis/Tendinitis

Bursitis is the inflammation of the bursae, small fluid-filled sacs that cushion the bones, tendons, and muscles near joints, often causing pain and restricted movement.

Infectious Arthritis

Infectious arthritis, also known as septic arthritis, is a painful joint infection caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi that can lead to joint damage if not treated promptly.
